What a crazy exciting music week it has been! It’s been one full of surprise drops, long-awaited comebacks, and an overall great collection of new releases.
The first surprise drop is a secret collaboration from indie darlings Conor Oberst and Phoebe Bridgers called Better Oblivion Community Center. If you’re a fan of either artist, you’ll love this new collection. Next, despite the release of their Black Album on the horizon, Weezer have presented us with the Teal Album, a collection of covers, including their hit cover of “Africa”. UK hip-hop punk Rat Boy has released his Tim Armstrong-produced new album, as have California punks Fidlar. There’s also a new one from instrumental guitarist William Tyler.
In singles, there’s a smorgasbord of great tracks you need to hear. First is Ryan Adam‘s first official single release of 2019 (where he plans to release 3 albums), “Fuck the Rain”, which contains a guitar solo from John Mayer. Vampire Weekend released their first tracks from the pending double-album, Father of the Bride. They’ll be dropping two songs each month until the album’s release. Florence + the Machine also released two unexpected new songs.
Jenny Lewis is back with her first solo single in years, and The Specials have released a special second song from their comeback album. Blink 182‘s Mark Hoppus has a new collaborative project with All Time Low‘s Alex Gaskarth called Simple Creatures, and they’ve released their first single today. These, on top of soulful new music from Durand Jones & the Indications, pop from Dido, ethereal emo from American Football (featuring Paramore‘s Hayley Williams), and a new track from Beck (inspired by the film Roma), makes for a pretty tasty weekend of new tunes to listen to.
