Well, apparently there are still some good things coming out of Florida these days. Four-piece rockers Roxx Revolt & The Velvets got their start in 2018, dropping EPs and barraging the FL music scene playing numerous festivals and shows. Carrying the torch of rough and rash glam rock and hair metal that Maneskin have brought back into the public consciousness, the young group also show off a knack for 70’s, power-pop leaning arena rock on the excellent track “Get High”.
The track has a rollicking swagger and rhythm that conjures classic Rolling Stones, but with the night club grime of The New York Dolls. And while the vibe is fun, with a big classic rock chorus that puts a southern rock twang on Cheap Trick, lyrically the track delves into weightier explorations of life’s meaning (“But there’s got to be something more, something else that I’ve ignored, down in the land where your shattered dreams have gone…”). It slaps hard enough to leave a mark.
