New Music Friday: June 9, 2023

For all our readers on the east coast, we hope you’re safe and staying inside to avoid the smokey air. Hopefully having some new music to listen to will make your time indoors more pleasant. There are some phenomenal new albums out today for you to listen to!

If you’re a fan of Americana/folk style songwriting, you’re likely already familiar with Jason Isbell & the 400 Unit, so his new album should be first up on your playlist. Also Jenny Lewis, who is leaning more into alt-country on her latest. If you want more groove and smooth music, Janelle Monáe is back with a new fire under her. If you want some hard rock, Extreme have their new album out today, or you can have some fun dancing and skanking to the new record by Amy Gabba & the Almost Famous. And if you caught our review of it earlier this week, the new Sofie Winterson album is one to hear!

I love Cold War Kids, and am already digging their new single. There’s a lot more great rock out this week; two new songs from Pup, The Maine and Semisonic, a new jam from Yungblud, a solid rocker from Teenage Wrist, bangers from Hot Water Music and Guardrail. If you want something more indie flavored, Portugal. The Man have another track out leading up to their new release, Ben Howard has the third song from his new release, The Drums have a peppy little gem, and PJ Harvey has the second from her new album.

Lana Del Rey has another gorgeous track with her father Rob Grant, The Arcadian Wild and The Watson Twins have folky, stomping tracks for us, and Leon Bridges has teamed up with country superstar Miranda Lambert for a new song. There’s summery jams from Iration and Dirty Heads, and local indie from Wax Owls. Jimmy Eat World and Manchester Orchestra have covered each other’s songs as they embark on a tour together, and Peter Gabriel has another astounding new song from his upcoming album.

Some other return champs this week are Catbite (with a Brian Fallon feature), Greta Van Fleet, Gus Dapperton, Adult Leisure, Bite Me Bambi, Fences, The Glorious Sons, Anberlin and Andy Frasco & The U.N. Artists getting their first feature on our playlist this week are Kitba, Cold Equations, Night Talks, Celestial North, The Penske File, Bradley McCaw, Organ Morgan, Rosie Darling and Durry.

Listen to all of these and more in our New Music Friday Playlist!
