This week we got some excellent indie rock, solid singer-songwriter style music, and hammering hardcore.
Indie rock giants Portugal. The Man are finally back with a new full length, the follow-up to their platinum-selling Woodstock. We also have the latest from the great NYC indie rockers Geese! Emo/Pop-Punk project This Wild Life has a guest-filled new release out, singer-songwriter Jesse Daniel Edwards‘ new album is here (read our review of it here), and the debut album from Denver hardcore punks Destiny Bond is barging into the list and your ears (check out our review here). We also have the collaborative EP from Donavon Frankenreiter and Devon Allman (read our interview with Frankenreiter about the EP and much more here).
It has been too long since we’ve heard from K’Naan, but he came back this week with his new tune “Refugee”, just in time for World Refugee Day. Another group making a long-awaited return are shoegaze group Slowdive. Rapper Big Freedia‘s new Lil Wayne-assisted banger just hit streamers, and 90’s pop rock hitmakers Goo Goo Dolls are back with a new single.
We have new blissful power-pop from Charly Bliss, and heavy punk/rap from Oxymorrons. Beck has teamed up with Phoenix for a new track, and Bakar continues to prove himself the next great alternative act with his latest. Some other artists you may have heard before on our list who dropped solid new tracks this week are Daisy the Great, D.A. Stern, Bealby Point, Jack, Benjamin Gustafsson, Anna Shoemaker, Joker’s Hand, Darlingside, Centershift, Tai Verdes, L.S. Dunes, LP, Boys Like Girls, and if you remember Corinne Bailey Rae‘s “Put Your Records On”, her new punk makeover is going to give you a shock.
