New Music Friday: July 14, 2023

It’s strange that a week where there are only a couple albums and an EP to share with you feels like a light week, but with the amount of music that’s been coming out this year that’s often the case.

First thing we have this week is the latest from one of the music biz’s go-to songwriters and collaborators Blake Mills, with his latest album. Next is the debut full-length from indie punks Snõõper (read our review of the album here). Then we’re also sharing the debut EP from Oakland power-pop group The Goods.

While there may not be that many new albums to spin, there are more than enough new songs to make-up for it. Rock fans will have plenty to cheer about since we got new singles from The Hives, Corey Taylor, Atreyu, Poptropicaslutz!, Low Cut Connie, Fiddlehead, Staind, The Glorious Sons, Teenage Wrist, Bearings, Sueco, 30 Seconds to Mars and Spanish Love Songs.

One of our faves Nathan Gray is back with his full-band project The Iron Roses and their first official single as a unit. The Drums, Charlotte Sands, Sparklehorse and Hiss Golden Messenger are providing some solid indie tunes for everyone, and Steve Marino has another power-pop gem out. The Streets have the first single out from their first proper album in a while, and grunge legends Candlebox have dropped the first single from their final album ever. We’ve also brought back Oslo Twins, D.A Stern, Trevor Hall, Sundressed, Durry, Shannon Clark & The Sugar, The Nadas and Yueku.

Every week, I review hundreds of submissions, so the artists chosen to be included in our NMF playlist for the first time are chosen because they are tracks I think deserve to be heard. For this week, there have been a lot of great tunes from acts never featured before, including Silent Forum, Art Bergmann, Sharkswimmer, Smoking Popes, Ava Earl, Stay Inside, Chris Bullinger, SANDS, Family Dinner, Requiem, Gabby & The Gondolas, The Sometimes Island, Cole Gallagher, A. Savage, Allegra Neve, The American Hotel System, Lead Pony, Bren, The Darien Gap and Soda Blonde.

Listen to all of these artists and more in our New Music Friday Playlist!
