It’s easy to make fun of bands started by movie stars. When Dogstar first started over twenty years ago, they likely received many of the same barbs and jokes as Bruce Willis and Eddie Murphy at the time, or as Jared Leto got when Thirty Seconds to Mars first came into existence. Maybe it’s because of how everyone has learned what a true mensch Dogstar member Keanu Reeves is, or perhaps now that time has passed, people have reevaluated the band’s music (a little hard since the band’s catalogue is not available on Spotify) but either way, there seems to be some general enthusiasm for Dogstar‘s long-awaited return.
With the band dropping their first single in more than two decades last week, “Everything Turns Around”, that enthusiasm feels justified. The new song is a lovely slice of melodic power pop. It’s the kind of feel-good, romantic pop-infused rock number that is perfectly fitting for a band at this point in their career. Recalling similar groups like The Rembrandts, the song is an acoustic led, mid-tempo number that should fit right in at Triple A radio.
Welcome back Dogstar. Listen to the new song here!
