Having been dropped by her label and parted ways with her manager, Hammond was in a place where many an artist may second-guess their artistic dreams. But a faithful invitation to play SXSW reignited her fervor…even if it led to an emotional slump once it was over. From this place came the inspiration from her latest single “America”.
A wistful summer anthem about what happens after the American dream, “America” captures the same dreamy, timeless style that has helped artist like Lana Del Rey become playlist fixtures. With its 60s guitars, warm folk harmonies that also incorporate classic girl group interplay, “America” is a beautiful example of music that finds comfort in melancholy. It embodies the sense of being lost and unsure of your future, yet makes you feel less alone with those feelings as you listen.
