If you grew up a Warped Tour kid, you remember the yearly Vans Warped Tour compilations that SideOneDummy put out each summer, featuring songs by each of the bands playing that year. Many of these bands would go on to huge fame and major label deals, while others would fade into obscurity.
Unsung Zeros sadly were on the latter. I first discovered them and their uplifting song “Miracle” on the 2002 Warped Tour CD. Formed in Orlando, Florida in 1998, the group released their first album in 2000, and were soon signed to Eulogy Recordings, which released their next album and EP. While in the process of recording another EP, the group broke up, releasing the Life on Repeat EP for free to their fans (it’s now on streamers). In fact, the group’s whole catalog is available on streaming services, with the ONE EXCEPTION being the excellent song “Miracle”.
As a young man, the lyrics to the song always hit me pretty hard:
And I’m a long way from believing
That I’m gonna be ok
Such a long way from believing
That I’ll escape this feeling that I hate
It’s a miracle that we are here today
With all the pain we put ourselves through over nothing
And then when the bridge hits, with the sincerity in the lyrics…
I’ve got to stop being scared
Using time that isn’t there. I could die tomorrow or today
…I felt like I needed to take more control over my own life. It’s the kind of song any insecure teen can use, and for some reason it’s not officially released anywhere online. The YouTube link to the song above is an upload by a fan. Hopefully at some point the band can find a way to get the song more widely available so other people can discover it for themselves. Until then, hear more of the band’s music here!
