There’s just something that makes sense about a hardcore punk band forming during the pandemic. That long period of anguish and claustrophobia feels like the perfect brewing ground for some righteously emotional and angry music, and so hearing that the extremely tight, melodic hardcore of Bremen, Germany’s Phantom Bay formed during the pandemic is not surprising.
Since the pandemic ended, the group has hit the world, guns-blaring, opening for incredible bands like Turnstile and Militarie Gun, and released their debut album last year. Last week, they dropped their latest single, “Airtight”, which is a ferocious banger through and through. Incendiary guitars blaze us through a screed against what the world is becoming:
Everyone is bitter, Everyone is sick, We consume all that’s left, Short sighted minds push us out into the tide
If this is where we’re gonna go, That’s not what’s right with me
