Soul music remains alive and well in America, as one can hear from the songs of Jalen Ngonda. The young singer has played his share of major festivals, and sold-out shows on his own in Europe. Having recently signed to the illustrious Daptone Records, he has released two new singles this year, with his debut album on the way. I first discovered his latest single as it was getting added to AAA radio station playlists, and was instantly in love with “That’s All I Wanted From You”.

The beautifully orchestrated track flows smoothly under Ngonda’s stirring vocals. Raw with a perfect blend of edge and melody, Ngonda is joined by female backing vocals that add a perfect soothing nostalgia to this modern jam. The rhythm section stays tight and ups the shuffle into a rousing bridge. Ngonda is truly an old soul in the modern world, and we’re lucky to have him.
