British alt-rock four piece Wesson are fairly new, having released their first single last year, and steadily rolling out more songs since then. The group has toured in their native country, building momentum as their songwriting continues to develop. With the hopes of creating a feel-good summer anthem, the band’s most recent single “Second Chances” is as upbeat and indelibly hooky as they come.
Inspired by past experiences, frontman Chris Wesson says about the track and wanting to change past mistakes:
“I’m not alone in having made mistakes along the way. So I hope this song gives some hope and comfort to those harbouring regrets and resentments, it can be a lonely place reflecting on a painful memory, hearing a song like “Second Chances” reminds me that I’m not alone, and that definitely helps. We’d hope it might lend itself to someone who is travelling or moving from one place to another, in the same way that their minds are moving on from dwelling on the past and celebrating that departure in their thought patterns.”
There’s certainly pings of regret in Wesson‘s vocals, but the swooning harmonies on the chorus balance the mild melancholy from lyrics like “I want to start all over, so I can get it right.” The sentiments are universal, and the message is delivered without any excessive cheese – just straightforward, pop rock heart.
