UK independent hip hop artist Ellis Evanson sought to capture the summertime vibes he cherished while listening to music in his garden on his latest EP Summer_Pak. The rising artist, gaining steam in his native country, has a relaxed flow and seeks out unique sounds and styles to mix in with his music to stand-out from the crowd. On the closing track of his new EP, “Shackeel”, he finds a soulful lane for his sunshine hip hop.
Mixing in smooth vocal samples, booming drums and jazzy clips, “Shackeel” brings to mind classics by De La Soul in its melodic reach. Evanson’s delivery has a cool confidence that helps him sell lines like “Still got plenty hotties always rockin’ on my gonads.” The track has the type of traditional hip hop bravado that can be a bit obnoxious, but Evanson makes them fun.
