Though the song came out last Fall, Funke and the Two Tone Baby‘s single “Can’t Stop the Music” is positively a summer jam. The English artist, who has been a major touring festival act for some years, combines electronic elements of live manipulated drum machines, synths and DJ effect triggers and meshes them seamlessly together with the more organic sounds of acoustic guitar, blues harmonica and powerful vocal dexterity, with sharp, poetic, socially conscious lyrics. It makes his sound difficult to pinpoint, but it works wonderfully well on this single.
With a vocal delivery straight out of a 90’s DJ-meets-alternative act (think classic Beck, Fatboy Slim), the track launches into an accordion-led hook of “They can’t stop the music if you keep on dancing”, which would surely be enough to get a festival crowd going. But as the bluesy, funky beat keeps going with positive lyrical call-and-responses like “I’m the best version of me that’s existing”, the track becomes even more addictive.
It’s sure to become a summer jam for you in any season. Take a listen to it in our Check This 2024 Playlist!
