New Music Friday: January 19, 2024

If you’re a fan of punk/punk rock, or any music close to the genre, this is a great NMF for you!

One of the biggest punk bands of all time, Green Day, are back with one of their best albums in years. They’re being joined by punk-leaning indie rock vets Sleater-Kinney, who’s new stuff is sounding great. We’re also sharing new albums by up-and-coming punk bands The Speakeasy (read our review here) and Stank Finger.

It’s not just in the albums; we’ve also got smashing new singles from Santa Cruz punks Strung Out, street punks Codefendants, young punks Vial, and UK stars Idles. Of course, if you’re not a huge punk person, there’s still plenty of other songs for you that are worth hearing. We’ve got new songs from other Brit bands like Mumford & Sons (with a wild guest – Pharrell Williams), The Wandering Hearts and 90’s greats James. From Australia, we’ve got talents like Imogen Clarke and Amy Shark representing. From Canada, the brilliant folk artists Donovan Woods has a new one that’s tied to a charitable effort.

Modern rock mainstays Cage the Elephant have stormed back with a new track to take over radio, and fresh off the announcement he’ll be fronting Sublime at Coachella, Jakob Nowell’s other project Jakobs Castle is pushing a new song this week. 90’s pop rockers Sister Hazel are still going strong with their new track. Bleachers have the third single from their new album out, and Mad Caddies latest infuses polka and country into their ska/roots-reggae sound. We’re also bringing back Norah Jones, Tai Verdes, Kaiser Chiefs, Ben Howard, Alien Ant Farm, Cinders, Shane Smith & The Saints, Enter Shikari, Modern English, The Libertines, The K’s, Ski Lift, Devon Thompson, Jeen, The Dandy Warhols, Khurangbin, Daniel Ellsworth & the Great Lakes, Lana Nauphal, JB Elwood, Neck Deep, Yours Truly, Cadet Carter, American Thrills, Novo Amor, Jelani Aryeh, X Ambassadors, Will Hoge, Pines, Real Estate, Vala, and Salt Cathedral, as they all have new songs out this week.

First-timers this week include Matt-Felix, Robby Hecht, Canyons & Locusts, Line Beauclair, Annie Scherer, Ben Crane, The Calamatix, and Dent May.

Listen to all of these and more in our New Music Friday Playlist!
