Check This: Good Deal – Circles

Artist: Good Deal

Song: “Circles”

Album: Probably Not EP

Genre: Emo, Indie, Alternative

North Carolina’s Good Deal are new to the scene, having released their first singles just last year, along with dropping their debut EP, Probably Not, on January 19th. The indie rock four piece incorporate elements of pop rock, folk and emo into their thoughtful, mid-tempo songs. They write the kind of music that seeps into your consciousness with unexpected grace, winning you over with lightly-sweetened hooks and plain-spoken lyrics that may remind some of groups like Slaughter Beach, Dog or Bright Eyes.

A highlight of their new EP is “Circles”. The track starts evoking an emotional response from the first notes, as the subdued guitars and swaying rhythms take you to another place. The vocals have a soothing tone that sweeps you into the ether. The lyrics play into this dreaminess, as the frontman sings “Could I take away this checkered flag, so we can just cruise around and around the track under the lights? I want the simple life.” The guitars start crescendoing towards the latter half of the track building into a soaring, spacious denouement, speckled with intricate math rock guitar flourishes.
