ARKTA are an international duo (Tak from Los Angeles and kenken from Tokyo) that are bringing powerful narratives to their forceful brand of nu-metal meets emo music. Since forming in 2020, the two have contributed music to computer games and continued to express themselves through music that is fierce yet melodic.
Their most recent single “The Lily” is deceptive as it opens with classical keys and mellow synths, before exploding into a raging chorus that certainly brought me back to the kind of early 2000s emo/screamo music I grew up. The verses are a mix of sung and rapped, which reflects modern trends, while the rhythms pick-up the pace halfway through the song to really drive things home. The screams are brutal but offset by a haunting melody that never undercuts the track’s punch.
