Danielle Lewis has a vocal quality that brings the listener into the dream state. Her new album, Dreaming in Slow Motion takes us on a gentle downtempo journey, fueled with peaceful piano and chord progressions. The album has a smooth cohesion that buoyantly flows from one song to another, decorated with gorgeous feminine vocals. Her sound evokes the feeling artists like Ayla Nereo, and Cigarettes After Sex. The track, “Help Me”, feels like it could have been written for Lana Del Rey. Her lyrics of a sapphic quality to them, with lines like “A woman like you, met a woman like me.” Danielle Lewis’ music would be lovely at a sound bath, while using sacred medicine, or simply winding down at the end of the day.
The Indy Review was able to ask the artist some questions about the spirit of her work.

THE INDY REVIEW: Can you please tell us a little bit about your journey into music, and the cultivation of your skill?
Danielle Lewis: Growing up by the sea in New Quay, Wales has been a long-standing source of inspiration throughout my music. Its peaceful effect helped bring out my inner thoughts and ideas. I enjoy evoking those sounds through my ethereal production.
IR:. What is it that initially drew you to Dream Pop, and why did you choose it as the genre from which you create?
DL: I found myself naturally writing more in this genre as I felt it enhanced my vocals and touched something deeper in my songwriting. I was drawn to producer Secondson’s otherworldly production. He helped bring to life the dreamlike essence of my album ‘Dreaming in Slow Motion’ edging between orchestral and electronic.
IR: Who are some of the vocalists who you treasure? Which artists inspire you and your work?
DL: I adore the pureness of Susanne Sundfor and Linda Perhacs voices.
IR: Is there any personal context you would like to share that can give more understanding with the music you are putting out there?
DL: I think of a body of work like a journal. It’s a way of me delving deeper and understanding more about a time, a place or a person. The album title captures the beauty of time in those reflections.
