It’s Good Friday today, but for those of you who are fans of Sum 41, it’s a great Friday, as the band’s excellent final album is out (read my review of it here). It’s a proper finale to the band’s catalog. Also worth tuning your ears to is the latest from indie pop band Chastity Belt, which we’ve got in the playlist. We’ve also got a new EP from Cinders that is quite enjoyable.
The great Strand of Oaks announced a new album this week and brought a new single out to go with it. Twenty One Pilots dropped the second taste from their next album, Mark Knopfler the third, and I’ve lost track with Frank Turner but any new song from him is welcome. Mdou Moctar again bring heat with their latest guitar flurry, and Blondshell banged out a bad-ass collaboration with Bully. Some big alt rock acts like Vampire Weekend, Kings of Leon, Alien Ant Farm, St. Vincent and Local Natives are bringing us some fresh sounds, and Matisyahu is tackling anti-semitism in his rap-leaning new track.
We’re always happy to feature returning champions when they have solid new songs out, and this week that includes Maximo Park, Eels, yungblud, Blue October, Devon Thompson, Peach Tree Rascals, ellis, Vial, American Culture, Owen, Dream Machine, How???, Sonny Tennet, Chasing Kites, Eddy Lee Ryder, The Dangerous Summer, Baby Got Back Talk, J.M.
