Paul Govey and David Matthew (Govey/Matthew), long-time friends and fans of classic rock, write music to harken you back to a bygone era. An era when you would buy an album, go home and put a headset on and listen to the album from start to finish. It was a desire to recapture that sound that initially led them to record “Justice”. It was a far more tragic reason that led them to re-record and master the track that would become “Justice XXIII”.
As David’s father, a massive Pink Floyd fan, was dying, the duo decided to finish his favorite song of theirs, “Justice”, in his honor. And listening to the massive, six-minute epic of a track, it’s clear why his father was such a fan. Full of haunting harmonies, expansive strings, and blazing psychedelic guitars, the song certainly owes a debt to Pink Floyd, but also stands on its own as an exemplary homage to classic rock song craft.
