Nashville-based guitarist and songwriter Luke Gard merges the heartbreak of Americana with indie folk landscapes, creating songs that move and breathe with delicate grace. His vocals are like a calming wind, and on recent single “Ashes and Wounds”, it’s as soothing as sunshine on your face.
The moving single, arranged with Gard’s gentle guitar chords, piano and a melancholic sonic palette, is as beautiful as folk music can be. The way Gard simplifies the chorus to the repetition of “Ashes and Wounds”, letting the music fill the space so the meaning of the words can echo in your mind, is devastatingly effective. The song seems to look back at a failed relationship (“before it’s too late and the hands of time can’t separate the love from the hate”), and the heartbreak is palpable.
