Los Angeles-born, Philly-based rock songwriter James Haro in Storage began his music project literally underground, in a storage room (hence the band name). While also representing his Mexican heritage in his music, is just getting his start, but with his debut single “Verses”, it’s a great start!
Starting with some jangly acoustic guitars, Haro’s plaintive vocals enter with “My lungs drag on concrete” and the song builds into a fervent rocker. “Battle without an enemy, shifting positions endlessly” showcase a lyricist who avoids the mundane. As a vocalist, he reminds me of Taking Back Sunday/Straylight Run‘s John Nolan – he has a matter-of-fact delivery that can blast out into something uplifting. Some jaunty synths come in on the chorus, and I found myself thinking of the J. Geils Band‘s hit “Centerfold” in its fun, anthemic melody.
This is a great rock song and a very promising debut for James Haro in Storage. Take a listen in our Check This 2024 Playlist!
