New Music Friday: April 26, 2024

April has been a smorgasbord of great new music, and it’s going out with a fine serving of sweet new albums and songs.

Folk troubadour Iron & Wine‘s new album is out today, as is alt. rock bad-ass St. Vincent. Early 2000’s rockers Alien Ant Farm are back with their first new album in nearly a decade (read my review of it here), there’s a great new album from The Ghost Club, and we’re blasting new EPs from Cold War Kids and psych rockers Perchard’s Wall.

And man do we have an eclectic mix of new singles for you. A previously shelved Johnny Cash album from the 90’s is going to see the light of day, and we have the first song from that “new” album. Hard rockers Motley Crue are back with a banger, and beloved indie songwriter Ani DiFranco‘s new track is a beaut. Soul-folk artist Amythyst Kia shared the first single from her next album, and Giovanni and the Hired Guns have dropped a crazy Latin-Disco-Rock smash.

Cult hero Anthony Green‘s new single (which I heard live just a couple weeks ago) is a funny, Megadeath-inspired track, and UK ska-punk Rat Boy has another new song only a week after dropping a mixtape. The late Scott Weiland returns with new music thanks to his son Noah Weiland completing a track with his departed father, and Pink Floyd member David Gilmour is dropping his first solo song in years. Other familiar names returning this week include Phantom Planet, The Dangerous Summer, How???, Kyle Andrews, Eat Defeat, Bob Schneider, Xana, Billy Alexander, Pokey LaFarge, John Oates, Circle the Earth, Hillsboro, Guster, Imogen Clark, The Decemberists, The Calamatix, Twenty One Pilots, Amanda Cy, Jon Muq, Say Anything, Left Circles, For Closure, Nervous Eaters, Hotel Mira, Tiny Habits, J.M. Clifford, Amos Lee, Amy Shark, S.J. Armstrong, Fantastic Cat, Joe Gittleman, Judd Warrick and Maya Hawke.

And it wouldn’t be an Indy Review NMF without making sure you all heard some new tunes by a fresh crop of carefully selected independent artists! For your discovery this week: The Bogmen (who’s new song we premiered earlier this week), IceSleek, These Five Years, JD Kucharik, Dream Pony, The Buddyrevelles, The Lets, Previous Industries, The Mourning, The Mercury Riots, Sydney Sprague, Ellysse Mason, The Anti-Queens, Allysha Joy, Kai Tak, Ezra Collective, Linn Koch-Emmery, Blvck Hippie, Dog Party, Juliet Lloyd, Cut the Kids in Half, The Familyhood Nextperience, Moonshine Heavies, Krissy Matthews, Bad Mary, Vacant Weekend, Rebecca Karpen and Richie Sambora!

If this all sounds good to you, then follow our New Music Friday Playlist and start listening!
