Son Called Soul (aka Tony Molek) has gone through a whole lot of hardships to get to where he is today. Dealing with addiction, identity theft, and almost losing all of his musical work nearly cost him his sanity, but after a multi-year process, he managed to hold himself together and release his latest music. We should all be grateful because we’re able to hear songs like the blues-rock banger “Take No Mess”.
The harmonica-laden track finds Molek shooting out lyrics with a hip-hop delivery that outline some of his struggles (“Even with gratitude you can get a little dizzy when you’re stuck undercover…Paranoid and codependent like an unsure part-time lover”). Following a soulful chorus, Molek finds a light at the end of his dark tunnel (“There’s something to be said for “what if” & manifesting your own truth through a little bit of mischief”). Ultimately the track is one of hope and resilience, which is why Son Called Soul is still here today.
