Middle Child Syndrome‘s Matt Mueller has followed his dreams in more ways than one. After 12+ years as a mechanical engineer, he left a career in corporate America to follow his musical dreams, forming the MCS project, where he is the sole contributor from initial songwriting through production. With his debut album Listen to Me arriving in June, he drew inspiration from a dream for his latest single “My Dream”, which we get to premiere here today.
About a girl that Mueller met in his dream, he has said about the single:

“The basics of the song – chords, verse lyrics and overall structure – was actually written years ago on acoustic guitar. There was a simplified guitar intro that, when moved to the strat, prompted a waterfall of lead guitar parts that really drives the entire song, and was really the most fun to write. I spent a lot of time on sound design of the lead guitar; it had to sound rich & full-bodied, which is tough to do when recording at home with limited equipment“
And full-bodied it sounds. Opening with a slightly-surfy guitar rhythm, and a snappy percussion, Mueller sings with a sweet, soulful tone that plays into the dreamy atmosphere. The chorus is a jangle-pop sing-a-long that rollicks with an Americana roll. It’s the kind of track you can clap along and stomp your feet to and that just makes you feel good as you listen.
Take a first listen to the track here before it goes live everywhere on Friday!
