Raised playing guitar in church and saxophone in jazz bands, Hilary Cousins already had a unique musical upbringing. Also gathering influences from the variety of people in his orbit growing up in Connecticut, as well as his variety of skills as an editor, filmmaker and audio engineer, it’s not hard to understand why Cousins has found a knack for writing melodically-winning songs which are expertly produced.
His latest single “When I Hear Your Voice” sounds tailor-made to soundtrack a romantically hopeful scene in a future film or television series. The heart in his vocal delivery during the chorus has a warmth that is undeniable, while light harmonizing is used to fill out the atmosphere. Meanwhile, acoustic guitars chime out over an alt rock drum rhythm, and the song closes out with a thoughtful electric solo.
