In our complicated times, a straight-forward, hard rocking punk tune can do wonders for your mental health. That is exactly what new group VIB has provided with “Guess I Lied”. Included on their release of demos in 2023, the song is a boozy, riotous barrage of guitars, muddy drums and vocals that only reveal a hint of the regret and sadness in the lyrics (“I’m drunk but I’m feeling fine. Still think about you all the time. Guess I lied”).
The lo-fi production recalls early garage punk style records from the eighties, while the band’s approach to lyrics puts them in the Ramones camp of “simple but meaningful”.
