New Music Friday: July 12, 2024

You didn’t think the break from new music would last for long, did you? After a sparse release schedule last week, the industry is back at 110% this week.

The noisiest release today is certainly the latest from rap superstar Eminem, and it’s one no one can ignore. But, there are a bunch of other new albums out that we’re happy to put on your radar, like the latest from Canadian folk artist Donovan Woods, or Britpop veterans Travis, or jam-band legends Phish. Gen Z will be all over the latest from Cigarettes After Sex (read my review of it here), and we’ll be bouncing along to the new album from Happy Landing. The new one from The Dip will be another soulful outing, and finally, you can discover the haunting tracks from South Africa’s Raptors & Remnants.

And man, there are so many strong singles this week, it will blow up your speaker. There are some big names, like hard rockers Seether, rapper Kid Cudi, pop-punkers Yellowcard (with a Jimmy Eat World cover for a good cause), folk/Americana acts like Michael Kiwanuka, Deer Tick and Judah & the Lion, upper-echelon indie groups like The Beaches, Charly Bliss, Bartees Strange and Cursive. Another famed indie group, Sunset Rubdown, is back with their first new song in over a decade, and we’re finally hearing new music from one of our favorite garage rockers Reese McHenry.

If you listen to our list often, you may know artists like MF Tomlinson, Amos Lee, Cloud Cult, Christian Lee Hutson, Bear Hands, Cliffdiver, Hamish Hawk, Pale Waves, Maximo Park, Brigitte Calls Me Baby, Hazel Gaze, Saint Social, Katie Malco, Greg Loftus, The Mourning, Mayday Parade, Evaride, The National Parks, Amelle Rose, Jontavious Willis, Marianas Trench, Shannon Smith, Under the Rug, Illuminati Hotties, Rare Americans, Natalie Del Carmen, Futurebirds, Ok Cowgirl, The Jellybricks, Bedside Morale, Common, Highly Suspect and King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, who all have new tracks this week.

On top of all of that, we’ve got a heap of new artists with new songs to add to our NMF alumni list: Armlock, Makeshift Tapedeck, Make Friends, Cathedral Ceilings, Casual Male, Paper Anthem, The Crane Wives, Joseph Shipp, Libby Tisler, Family Dinner, King Thief, Little Image, Steve Louw, Bella White, Kassie Ashton, Noa Zimmerman, Silk Cut, Ella Thompson, Noa Jamir, The NSO, Chiefland, Jean Paul Jean Paul, Monobloc, Voxtrot, The Spiritual Machines, Jr. Juggernaut and The Goodwin Club.
