New Music Friday: August 2, 2024

Welcome to August! I’m currently at home recovering from a knee surgery, but that is going to prevent me from sharing all of this week’s great new music with you!

New music like the latest (and final) album from punk legends X or dark alternative gods Smashing Pumpkins. Jack White‘s surprise No Name album is getting a proper full release, and we also have the debut album from buzz-worthy 80’s-influenced group Brigitte Calls Me Baby. Killer Mike continues to kill it with his latest solo album, we’re also featuring the debut EP from Big Fat Cow.

Canadian folk artist and friend to the site Dan Mangan dropped a new track this week, as did California folk rockers Wax Owls (also friends to the site). I’m excited for you all to hear the latest tracks from The Offspring, Less Than Jake, The Calamatix and The Defiant (covering The Interrupters). Iron & Wine has covered American Football, and Father John Misty has dropped a new track to accompany a new best-of album. A$AP Rocky has a new song with Jessica Pratt (who I just saw open for Beck), and the legendary MC5, who recently lost founding member Wayne Kramer, have dropped a single from their forthcoming final album that features Vernon Reid from Living Colour.

Other awesome NMF vets returning this week include Jamie Sutherland, Oceanator, Zebrahead, Anna Shoemaker, Pronoun, Joseph Shipp, Judah & the Lion, BoywithUke, Jontavious Willis, Maris, The National Parks, Empire Springs, Jr. Juggernaut, Brian Ray, MJ Lenderman, Taylor Acorn, Tonto, Suki Waterhouse, Trevor Hall, Lovelytheband, Ashe, Foushee, Rare Americans, Kacey Musgraves and Carbon Leaf!

And artists appearing for the first time on our list this week are tibia, Ronny Tibbs, Walt Hamburger, Peiriant, JOSÉ JUNIOR, Heart to Gold (who were great opening for Militarie Gun), Manja, Bottlemoth, Pretty Bitter x Flowerbomb, sullvn, 86TVs, Peiriant, Brackish, Charlie Peacock, Jonathan Plevyak, Jesse Ahern, and Kill Lincoln.

Start streaming all of these in our New Music Friday Playlist!
