Punk trios are nothing new, but it’s been a while since a fresh-faced group came about with such fun songs and good vibes right out the gate. Introducing The Rubber-Necks, a group with ska and pop-punk influences writing the kind of summertime punk tracks that have made groups like blink-182 beloved. Though listening to their second single “Hurry Up”, one can hear just as much influence from bands like The Clash and Less Than Jake in their sound.
The opening up-stroke chords bring a breeziness to the track, reminiscent of Bedouin Soundclash‘s “When the Night Feels My Song”, but when the vocals come in, with the British lilt, the track takes on a pub singalong feel. There’s a conversational style to their lyrics (“Making my way into London traffic. Second time this week I’ve been late”) that show off their working-man bonafides with a slacker ethos. But there’s nothing slacker about the immediate catchiness of the track’s big, energetic chorus.
This song deserves to be blasted in pubs across the UK and in a bunch of bars everywhere else. Check it out in our Check This 2024 Playlist!
