The 80’s Sunset Strip music scene will always be connected to the sound of 80’s hair metal, big glammy choruses and hard-hitting, fun rock n’ roll. It’s a sound that was embraced world wide, and which still has passionate fans, including in the Netherlands with Dutch songwriting team Dean Cooper. The band channels the bombastic vibes and over-the-top sounds that made the music of that decade so idiosyncratic, and you can hear it all in their single “I’m Alive”.
With its big, stadium drums, power riffs and uplifting lyrics like “I’m celebrating life everyday” (sung by Swedish rock/metal singer Rob Lundgren), this is the kind of feel-good hard rock that got lost after grunge and nu metal to things in a moodier and angrier direction. That’s why it’s so great hearing Dean Cooper blast out gang choruses that revel in the joys of being alive and making the most out of life – because we need that feeling of hope now more than ever.
