Raised on everything from hymns to Led Zeppelin to punk rock, with Sam Cooke as part of his self-discovery, Leighton Fields has been enmeshed in music his whole life. Joining his first band at 13, he’s been playing ever since. Recently, he has been releasing singles that will be part of his first full-length album, and one stand-out is “Riverside”. About the track, Fields has said:
This song is about reconciliation in relationships. We all have fights and arguments. This song uses the Christian baptism metaphorically to create the imagery of a fresh start.
The song instantly draws you in with the humble gravitas of Fields’ vocals; a husky and soulful baritone that brings extra resonance to lyrics like “we could wash it all away”. The emotion at the heart of the song is clear (“This fire burning in my heart will always burn for you”), and the simple folk-rock arrangement suits the song perfectly.
