New Music Friday: November 22, 2024

The year is wrapping up, but music releases will not go quietly into that goodnight.

One of the world’s biggest rock groups, U2, have shared the “shadow album” to their 2004 album How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb, featuring previously unreleased tracks recorded during those sessions for the first time. It’s old, but it’s new. Completely new is the latest album from sharp-tongued songwriter Father John Misty, every songwriter’s favorite songwriter. Less sharped-tongued and more soulful songwriter Michael Kiwanuka has shared his new album as well.

Scottish indie rockers Franz Ferdinand have dropped the second single from their upcoming album, and unsigned rock force Felicity have made the gutsy move of recording a cover of “Hey Jude” and putting it out into the world. Coheed & Cambria announced their new album with the release of another single, and the Drive-By TruckersPatterson Hood has shared he’s releasing his first solo album in twelve years, and gave us a new single featuring Lydia Loveless.

Wilder Woods has teamed up with Anna Graves for his new track, while Matt Nathanson has been joined by the Indigo Girls for an interestingly-titled new bop. We’ve got new songs from NMF vets like L.S. Dunes, Sharon Van Etten, Mat Kearny, Adrianne Lenker, Twenty One Pilots, The Wombats, Slow Readers Club, Levi Turner, Pretty Jane, The Rubber-necks, The Ratchets, Bloc Party, The Backfires, Noah Weiland, Andy Stochansky, Marples, Gone Gone Beyond, Roger Weeks and Dave Murphy.

And if you want some new names to add to your music library, we’re introducing you to Wylderness, Mike Lamitola, Samantha Crain, Liv Wade, Izzy Raye, Liang Lawrence, Neverless.am, Krooked Tongue, Remi Reilly, David Judson Clemmons, Claire Guerreso, Spark of Life, Vixens of Fall, NATI, Aidan Leclaire Band, Evan Honer, A Weekend at Ramona’s, The Talbott Brothers, Diane Coll, Paul Thorn, Dominik Büchele, Elliot James Reay, Son Jnr and Caitie this week.
