Houston native Chris Lively began his songwriting journey over two decades ago, and has since released an EP and a number of albums, earning a following in the gulf coast region. Melding folk, blues and Americana, he displays all of these influences on his latest album Where We Are Right Now, which contains the elegiac single “Don’t Wake Me”.
Lively uses slide guitar to build an atmosphere, as a bluesy melody underscores his soulful vocals. A love song at its core, Lively sings “I don’t always think about you, but I feel so joyful on days that I do” with an understated romanticism. The song’s rhythm is a slow mosey, perfect for a moonlit walk under the stars with your own “sweet moon angel”.
