Never be afraid to start a punk band. Even if you are approaching or in “middle age” – as long as you love the music, great songs can come. Use Charlottetown’s TeethOut as an example.
A skate-punk band formed this year of self-described “very middle-aged men”, they write the kind of energetic, melodic punk rock that those of us raised on Epitaph and Fat Wreck bands will instantly recognize. Their second single “Streetlights” is a prime example.
Big, crunchy power chords ring out, as the drums smack you around. The vocals have that snotty, gravelly tone that make them sound powerful and youthful, and the chorus’ “I’ll still waaaaiiiiiitttt for us under the streetlights” has that X factor; a mix of nostalgia and earnestness that tell you the song is coming from a real place. Also it’s simply an earworm.
Their debut EP is dropping this Friday, but you can hear this single in our Bangers of the Week Playlist right now!
