New Music Friday: January 10, 2025

It’s been a tough week here in Los Angeles. I’ve seen my own family evacuated due to the fires and their home in danger. For everyone reading this in the L.A. area, we hope you and your loved ones are safe and hope you have not lost anything invaluable. While new music seems trivial in the face of everything, it remains something pure to me. Something that can bring a little joy during hard times. I and the team here will continue sharing, even just to take your (and our) minds off things for a little while.

So here’s this week’s new music round-up.

Scottish indie rockers Franz Ferdinand have dropped a fantastic new album to get you grooving, and Sons of Silver supply solid rustic rock on their latest LP. UK band Myriad has also dropped their new EP, for fans of energetic Britpop.

And while there are just a couple of new albums, there’s a smorgasbord of new singles out from some major, beloved artists. Japanese Breakfast announced their new album this week and shared its first single, as did folk rockers The Lumineers. Winona Fighter, Silverstein and L.S. Dunes keep raising the tension for their coming albums with new songs, and Panda Bear has shared the second dreamy song from their next release.

Punk legend Bob Mould shared a new single, and Hamilton Leithauser announced the release date of his next album with its second single. And making a return after a nearly 12 year hiatus is the Josh Joplin Group, with a brand new single and album on the way. Other artists returning to the list this week are Matt Nathanson, Blondshell, Wallows, The Amazons, Pup, Elle Belle, Battleflagg, tibia, Angel White, The Vices, Taylor DeRousse, Yam Haus, Samantha Franks, TJ Rosenthal, Cymande, Sports Team, The Hellacopters, Beach Fossils and The Cle Elum.

And some new names to learn from their new songs this week include Lutalo, Supercrush, Arcy Drive, Without Willow, Camille Schmidt, Savelene, Adam Melchor, Great Grandpa, Rioghan, Yama Warashi, Some Fear, Neal Francis, Seizure, Heaven, Manic Street Preachers and W4RP Trio.
