Long Island songwriter Paris Ray is as adept playing solo with her guitar, or kicking up a louder ruckus with her band The Crush. She spent much of 2024 releasing new music, including the nostalgic indie pop number “Horoscopes”.
In her own words, the song makes her “feel like we’re in the montage of a 2004 film”, and listening to the serene arrangement, filled with tiny bursts of bright pop rock, one can certainly hear those vibes. The lyrics have tongue-in-cheek moments (“I’ve been consulting with the planets, don’t totally understand it”), but at the heart of the song is someone trying to decide if their relationship is destined for something more. It’s this heart, backed by the crunchy guitars that power the song, that carry the track to a satisfying conclusion.
