Artist: Chris Rafter
Song: “New Year’s Eve”
Album: EP TBD
Genre: Folk, Acoustic
Since Zach Bryan‘s ascendance, it seems there are more and more country-leaning artists that also imbue their songs with hefty doses of rock and singer/songwriter Americana depth. Add Chris Rafter to the list of these fine artists. The independent, Philadelphia-based artist has a new EP on the way, and the first single from it, “New Year’s Eve” is set to get you hyped.
The track has a melancholy lilt that slowly builds into emotional stomp-and-holler gold. After the first chorus, Rafter really starts to rock out, as Rafter spins a tail of learning to grow and change, crying out “I’ve been drinking if I’m saying something I don’t mean” and “I’ve been trying to make a change but the change made me”. With some powerful “whooaaas”, Rafter brings the song into a stadium romp.
