New Music Friday: February 21, 2025

I hope all of you have had good weeks. Mine has been a whirlwind of east coast travel, driving through white-out snow conditions and trying to stay warm. Thankfully, I’m back in sunny Los Angeles now, and ready to hear some new tunes.

The most exciting releases (for me) this week is #2 on my Most Anticipated Albums of 2025 list, Sam Fender‘s People Watching. Another one from that list, Sunny War‘s Armageddon in a Summer Dress, is also out in the world today. Then there’s the latest solo album from Drive-By Trucker Patterson Hood, the first half of a double album from post-hardcore vets Silverstein, and the new full-length from ska-pop-punkers The Pomps.

Mumford & Sons have dropped the second song from their upcoming new album, which should get many of you stomping and hollering. The new song from Anxious will get you moshing, while the latest from Ezra Collective will get you dancing. Icelandic rockers Kaleo are back with a bluesy new single, and if you want more harder-edged tunes, there’s new ones from Disturbed and A Day to Remember. You can also go in a folkier direction, with the latest tracks from Jensen McRae, Hurray for the Riff Raff and Mt. Joy.

The great Counting Crows have returned with new music, and Suki Waterhouse has wasted no time in dropping a new single, after her great album last year. McKinley Dixon has released the first single from his next album, and Ruston Kelly is prepping his next Dirt Emo release with a choice cover. Other returnees to the list this week include Tigers in Cairo, Tugboat Captain, Cut Glass Kings, Briston Maroney, Wryn, Errth, The Modbeats, Sam Robbins, TJ Rosenthal, Blondshell, Andy Stochansky, Piper Connolly, Wallows, Fontaines D.C., The Peawees, Superheaven, Royel Otis, Evan Honer, Zuli Jr, Andy Frasco & the U.N., Rare Americans and Caamp.

And as always, we have some fresh faces joining our playlist party, including Andy Bell, Sons of Levin, John Splithoff, Quickly Quickly, Corey Congilio, Tres Kings, Lydons, Levi Evans, Xixa, Cumulus, Jon Gazi, Museum of Light, Pretty Rude, Keys, Two-Man Giant Squid, Leisure Hour, The Ivy & Lyncs, Michael Isaak, David Arlo, Bottle Rockets, Bren Joy, Pip Lewis and Bagdad.
