Song: “Foolish Pride”

Album: The Same Place EP

Label: Delco Basement Records

Genre: Folk, Acoustic, Rock

Independent folk/rock artist Colin Cleary is a fresh face in the Philadelphia music scene, having released his first single only a couple years ago. He’s an evocative storyteller, and talented multi instrumentalist who has recently released his first EP. About the EP, Cleary has said:

Got to work on my first EP with Philadelphias own Mike ‘SLO-Mo’ Brenner. Put this together (production wise) over the course of 2 1/2 months. These songs tell the story of heartbreak, love, the meaning of hometown pride, and the importance of self value. They all come a very true place in my heart and my only goal here is to find an audience who will resonate with and enjoy my music.

One of the stand-out songs from the EP is “Foolish Pride”. The track is a beautifully simple folk track, with some gorgeous accoutrements. Melancholy slide guitar adds a wallop of feeling, Cleary has a fantastic plainspoken vocal style that works perfectly for the track. He sings his story without flash, but with plenty of emotion (“How will you give her all she wants? She lets her guard down with the sun. Put away your foolish pride for once.”).
