Playlist: Take a wander around Japan

Spring is here, the snow is melting, and the sun once again is setting at a reasonable hour. And with a new season comes new music to decorate the passage of time. This winter I spent some time in Japan, collecting vibes along the way. I have curated those vibes for you in a playlist called: “Take a wander around Japan.”

The playlist opens with November Ultra’s “the end.” Which is the slowest and dreamiest song of the bunch. This sets the stage for a variety of genres that all bend toward relaxation and exploration. Most of the songs are fairly new, but there are also some nice covers (“Do 4 Love” by Snoh Aalegra, “I’m On Fire” by STRAINJER), and some throwbacks (Feist, Joni Mitchell, and Khalid) to keep the flavor balanced.

Some highlights:

“Never Been Better” by Ben Abraham. This song serves as a male answer to Lola Young’s “Messy”. He shares his struggles with being a walking contradiction at times, using narrative storytelling around mental health and real experiences in a catchy way.

“Old Love” by Dominique Fils-Aime opens with a beautiful Spanish guitar and trickles creeping layered harmonies that feel as if you’re being serenaded by the Greek muses.

Or maybe you’ll like “give me your love” by Another Chemical Love Story, which feels like the soundtrack to one of those 1960s ten-minute choreographed dance party videos ala Austin Powers.

I encourage you to listen to this playlist while you’re in transit, or at your desk. It is a nice tether to carry you through the movement of time and set you at ease.
