New Music Friday: April 11, 2025

I’m still a little jet-lagged following my European travels, and working on getting my head back on straight. I expect much of this coming weekend will be spent doing that (and recovering from the cold I likely got on one of the flights home), and I’ll be enjoying much of the fine music released this week while I do this.

Bon Iver is nearly a household name, thanks to high-profile collaborations with Taylor Swift and Zach Bryan, so there should be a thunderous amount of anticipation around his latest work. Ok Go latest batch of savvy power pop tracks are here, and our friends in Rare Americans have dropped their huge new album. And if you are a fan of the always-eclectic Mars Volta, you can rejoice as their new album is finally hear.

It’s also an epic week for fans of alt rock, as some of the biggest ones have new songs out this week. Acts like Arcade Fire (with a new album coming in a couple months), Green Day (with five new songs for a deluxe edition of SAVIORS), Turnstile (new album coming in June) and folk-rockers Caamp and The Head and the Heart. Ben Kweller‘s latest track has a feature from psych-rockers The Flaming Lips, and Canadian folk artist Dan Mangan sounds as great as always on his new song. The beloved chanteuse Lana Del Rey has shared a brand new song, as have mysterious rockers Ghost.

Britpop vets Pulp have announced their first album in 24 years and shared the first song form it, while UK jazz collective Kokoroko have announced their second album and shared a new track from it. Cloud Nothings have shared a new song from an extended version of their last album, and La Banda Chuska‘s unique mix of Latin pop and surf rock makes them a stand-out group to watch. More returning artists this week include Bootsy Collins, Spacey Jane, Max McNown, The Northern Line, Iglu & Hartly, Selma French, Doves, Alien Boy, Sports Team, Empired, Abbey Cone, Agora Sci-Fi, The Wrecks, Mattstagrahm, Arkells, Eskimo Joe, Valerie June, Anderson East, OneLineDrawing, We Are Scientists, Headstones, Fantastic Cat and Frank Turner.
