Banger of the Week: Shorthanded – W.O.K.E

Portland, OR’s Shorthanded have existed since 1995, releasing their first punk record with Descendents‘ Bill Stevenson at the helm. Following an album release in 2001, the band went on hiatus to pursue other ventures.

I guess the late 2020’s is as good of a time as any to make your comeback. With Stevenson back, the group started dropping new singles a couple years back, and have kept going since, with music that stays fast, melodic, and with new single “W.O.K.E.”, aptly relevant.

Like Descendents, Shorthanded‘s latest track is lyrically sharp and melodically sticky. The band takes jabs at the self-righteous left and the know-it-all cancel culture they have created over fiercely hooky punk rock.
