Summer is upon us, and with it comes backyard hangs, moments by the water, and lots of new music. Once again, we are loading up a seasonal playlist for you with ear juice that will add shimmer to your summer. This playlist has a core vibe of indie dance, afrobeats, and California beachy instrumentals.
Artists like Burna Boy, June Freedom, and Keinemusic add that rich afrothump with vocals. And there are a few well-placed touches of nostalgia with deep cuts from Jungle, Gnarles Barkley, Cat Power, Billie Eilish, and The Go-Gos. A few other songs of note include “Madison” by Drugdealer, which is a modern evocation of Laurel Canyon music circa Los Angeles in the 1970s. As well as “I Do” by DRAMA, which has gorgeous vocals, beautiful horns, and a grooving beat. There is even a dance remix of Debussy’s, “Claire De Lune” called “Claire de Tulum”.

There is a decent amount of instrumental tracks that leave room for you to think your own thoughts, and offer rest between the words. The playlist has reinvented covers, such as “Black Magic Woman,” “Fade Into You,” “Unwritten”, and “Is This Love?” And just to make sure we haven’t gone full hipster kitty, we keep smash hits from Tate McCrae and Muni Long in the mix so that you can belt out the words you know and love so well.
As always, we hope you enjoy this season of new tunes. Thanks for listening and reading!
