North Carolina-based songwriter Bob Williams has been writing and performing music for over 35 years, though recently returned to music after a fourteen year hiatus. The result of his return is the album Time Will Tell, a very personal album addressing the death of his father from cancer, the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, post-pandemic isolation and loneliness and relationship challenges. One of the highlights of the album is the emotional “High and Low”.
Written a few months prior to his father’s death, the song movingly addresses the ups and downs following his father’s battle with cancer. Williams powerfully emotes as he narrates these challenges through small details (gathering in his father’s home that was once his grandmother’s, the doctor’s having hope that chemo will work). Musically, the track is a spirited alt-country cut, with rocking guitars and jazzy trumpets rounding out the sound leading to a powerful finish.
