Reimagining the spirit of rebellion by reimagining the sound of ska and punk in 2025: this is the mission of London’s King Julian Rebellion. Formerly of band The Skammers, Julian has been finding ways to bring new life to the genre, and one can hear it in his latest single “Toy Piano”.
The track retains the classic rhythms of ska music, and the soulful brass that defines ska music to most. But Julian also brings in electronic elements to “Toy Piano”. There are key melody loops and vocal effects which give the song an atmospheric edge that feels very 2025. It brings dub vibes to the classic ska arrangement.
