Spooky season is upon us, and we have some well-timed releases this week to start the season off with (and no, I’m not referring to the new Taylor Swift album, which I’m sure will sell terrifyingly large numbers of copies).
The first is the new album by AFI. The band has had a deep connection with Halloween (even covering The Misfits famed single), so it feels appropriate their latest album would drop this month. Another well-suited album is the heavy, atmospheric new album from Thrice (read my review of it here). While maybe not as seasonal, we’re also excited to share the latest albums from melodic punks The Carolyn (read our review of it here), reggae icon Matisyahu, soulful alt pop band Adult Leisure, and reunited Brit rockers iC1s. We also have an ebullient EP from Malawi trio The Kasambwe Brothers.
Pop-punk giants New Found Glory and Bowling for Soup both dropped new songs this week, which pleases my Warped Tour heart. The Last Dinner Party may sing about being “Second Best”, but they continue to prove they are one of the top new bands out there. The Super Furry Animals have dug up a long-lost gem, while Coheed & Cambria have shared the last new tracks from their deluxe edition of their recent album. There’s sweet soul from Mavis Staples, and effervescent folk from Vance Joy.
We’re happy to welcome back Speedfossil, Mayday Parade, Death of Guitar Pop, The Dream Eaters, Ink, In Color, Ben Quad, The Moss, Jeen, Krooked Tongues, The Helltones, Grade 2, The Animeros, Tristan Tritt, Sadlands, Superintendo, Stay the Course, Benjamin Booker, The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Ax and the Hatchetmen, Good Neighbours and Maris to the list this week. And the new names we’ve added for you to spin include Devon Church, The Melancholy Kings, Smug LLC, UKofA, JOHNNYSWIM, Eddie Brett, Strange Lot, Queen Lily, Boys Life, Pommer, A Loss for Words and Upchuck.
Listen to all of these new tunes in our New Music Friday Playlist!
