Banger of the Week: Rockvyn – Lovgorithm

Scientists know how to rock. You’ve got people like Greg Graffin, Dexter Holland and Milo Aukerman all fronting amazing punk rock bands, while also boasting PhDs. Well now you can add German microbiologist Patrick Schmitt to that list, as his music project Rockvyn hits hard with swagger.

Only releasing music since this last summer, one listen to “Lovgorithm”, and you might think you were hearing the lost love child of Led Zeppelin and the Black Crowes. The tracks guitars and drum arrangement sounds straight out of the 70’s, with rock and rolling rhythms and big, harmonic choruses. Yet there are also heavier moments, with the guitars breaking down and Schmitt’s vocals wailing like early Robert Plant.

There’s even a bit of a sinister streak on the bridge, when Schmitt asks “Who’s watching? Who’s choosing?” It’s pure rockin’ goodness, right down to its most basic components. Truly the work of someone who studies very ‘micro’ things.

Take a listen to the song in our Bangers of the Week Playlist.
