Country: France

While birthed in France, folk pop/rock band NoCopyright © have no problem writing songs in English to connect with a larger audience. Though songs as beautiful as “Shadom” could hook in listeners no matter their language or dialect. The song’s pulsating guitars and tempting piano chords create a sense of anticipation, which the vocals build on to bring the song to a near-climax. And just as suddenly, the song takes a 180 and goes into Elton John-style rock balladry.

“Fox” would appeal to any fans of bands like Rilo Kiley, with its tight, sultry folk pop arrangement and smooth, soulful vocals. On top of the rock and folk influences, the band also shows off some jazz inspiration in songs like “Fellow Song”, with the mellow rhythms and fluttering vocals. It can also be heard in “A Kiss”, with its grooving saxophone accompaniment.

If you’re looking for band soaking up various influences and churning out lounge-worth, pop-inflected rock and folk numbers, then check out NoCopyright ©‘s music in our World Watch Playlist.
