I don’t have much info about The Flu. I was recently submitted their song “Get Your Purse Get in the Truck” with little fanfare around it, not even realize the track hailed from their eleven year old album It’s Been Going Around. Normally a song this old wouldn’t be part of our Check This collection, but it was such an interesting musical goulash (and clearly one that hadn’t gotten much traction upon release), that I felt it worthy of giving some love in 2025.
Based around a classic country shuffle, the song’s vocals have a ramshackle hip-hop flow and wild energy. Think Bob Dylan‘s “Subterranean Homesick Blues”, but spinning a tale of redneck debauchery and crime. There’s even some fine guitar slinging thrown in for some good times.
