Lost Gems: The Unreasonables/Rusty Reid – Let’s Just Talk

While there already seems to be an ‘unreasonable’ amount of music out there in the streaming world, there are still plenty of great, lost songs and albums that for one reason or another remain unavailable digitally. For all the complaints that can be made about streaming, it can’t be argued that it’s the main way music is consumed these days, and the best way to preserve music for the future.

I’m a big proponent of getting lost albums on streaming services (I was even working on starting my own label/distribution shingle to gather lost music and working with the artists to get it digitally released). It’s because of this that I’m always happy when an artist gets their older material released for more audiences to hear. That’s exactly what rock songwriter Rusty Reid recently did with music recorded by his old band The Unreasonables.

In Rusty’s own words:

“It’s never-before-released material that was recorded forty-something years ago!! Yep, a double-album of hook-laden, well-played pop-rock, power-pop, whatever you want to call it, that I and the band recorded then just walked away from, as we all went on to different things.”

The album’s third single which is the first to catch my hear is “Let’s Just Talk”. The New Wave-y song sounds like the lost 80’s nugget that it is. A simple clap-along beat and two-chord melody breaks into a smooth, sultry chorus that echoes greats like Elvis Costello. It’s a great little tune, and I’m personally happy that it and the rest of the album are out in the world to be shared and discovered.

Take a listen to “Let’s Just Talk” right here.
